Sport and music can seem like two different worlds, yet the music industry is currently seeking inspiration from the world of sport. Particularly with regards to development of talents, the music industry is increasingly looking toward elite sports.
Principal at the Danish Songwriting Academy, Anne Meldal, lead preceedings at today’s seminar, where four guests were invited to talk about sports as a source of inspiration for the music sector. During the seminar, each guest was allowed to make a short presentation.
Mental coach at FC Midtjylland, Troels Banggaard, was the first speaker. He quickly captured the audience’s attention with parallels between sports stars and artists. Centrally, he claimed that for both sports and music it is necessary to view the human being behind the performer.
The next speaker was Cille Veje who works as a mental coach for musicians. She talked about the importance of having a mental coach to keep the performer on track. In particular, she stressed the importance of beginning mental coaching at an early stage of the artist’s career in order to strengthen their mental abilities as soon as possible.
The final presentiation was a joint venture between the singer-songwriter, Dopha, and her manager, Kathrine Ravn. The duo stressed that physical aspects of professional sports can be of use to artists in the music industry. Kathrine Ravn explained that she sees her work managing an artist as akin to that of a sporting coach, because it’s her responsibility to get the best out of her artists. Dopha continued by saying that she also sees herself as an elite athlete and added that she is very dedicated to optimizing her performances. Just like elite athletes, she avoids alcohol before performing.
At the end of the session, the panel followed the audience out into the hall, where it was possible to ask them questions.
